One Day Workshop: Expressive Portrait in Oil
Sunday, December 7, 2025
10:30am to 4:30pm w/ 1hr lunch break
We are thrilled to welcome Natalia Gorbunova back to Hamley Studio to host a one-day workshop in expressive portrait painting. Natalia's approach combines classical techniques and expressive brushwork, and is inspired by work of Ilya Repin, Valentin Serov and Nicolai Fechin.
Working with a live model, Natalia will guide participants in building a strong tonal structure and capturing a convincing likeness of the model. She will also demonstrate techniques for expressive mark-making, with the use of fan brushes and palette knives, and will discuss the colour schemes of selected paintings by the aforementioned artists.
Whether you're looking to refine your portrait skills or experiment with new techniques, this workshop will offer a fabulous hands-on experience in a supportive environment.
